About the Association

The Icelandic Association of the Deaf is an advocacy-, expert and service organization of the Deaf which was established February 11, 1960. The Association has much knowledge concerning Icelandic Sign Language and the deaf Society. The Association of the Deaf gives counselling and professional opinions regarding the issue of the Deaf, and make sure to keep the interests of its members first, securing their equality to society wherever they may be situated. The first and foremost of the Association of the Deaf's projects is making sure that the interests of its members are fulfilled, its roles are visible to society, that it upholds its cultural obligations, and that it fulfills its services and counsels its members. The website's goal is to make clear the Association's work and services towards its members, and those who wish to look further into the operations of the Association can access, through the website, the meetings, documentations and articles published by the Association.
